After the Tsunami...the Aftershocks.

Dear Comrades,

Our PM is precariously sitting on a 3 legged chairs.A slight sneeze from Umno will definitely throw him out from the PM post. After the unexpected lost of 5+1 states to the Barisan Rakyat, the PM is under tremendous pressure to step down.He is not only hummilated from the Rakyat but also from his own UMNO and BN partners who took advantage of his weakened position.

Three Deputy Minister have refused to accept the post which is unprecedented during Dr M premiership.Even UMNO youth go against him by refusing to take any action against Mukhrif on the letter send to him to ask him to resign.Later when Mohd Taib who was appointed by him to strengthen his position proposed that UMNO general election to be postponed next year, his proposal was thrown out during the UMNO Supreme meeting which was actually chaired by him. This shows that he have lost support even among his own UMNO members.

The latest bashing came from the Royalties. The Raja Perlis refused to accept the PM appointed man Dato Shahidan as the Menteri Besar and appointed his own man as the Menteri besar, unheard of during Dr M time.Taking advantage from the situation in Perlis, the Sultan of Terengganu exert his power to nominate Dato Ahmad Said as the Menteri Besar instead of Dato Seri Idris who was Pak Lah preferred choice. The stand off between the PM and the Sultan who was the current King finally resolved with the PM made to eat humble pie.

The Terengganu saga was a test of PM credibility which he failed miserably. He had disappointed the group of 22 state assemblymen who have been standing solidly behind him during the standoff. How are the UMNO members going to support him if cannot handle such an important situation.PM days are numbered and it will be a miracle if he can withstand the coming UMNO election due to be held this December 2008.His challenger will most likely be Tengku Razaleigh who have the support of Dr M and many disgruntled division heads. It won't be surprise if Tengku can muster more than 30% division support for him to qualify for the contest.

9th March 2008 was indeed a memorable day for Malaysia. It was a day where the Rakyat spoken. This becomes possible due to a few factors. Among the most important factors is 'Pak Lah' it is Pak Lah who created the enviroment for the birth of democracy in Malaysia,.BN will still be having 2/3 majority if not for Pak Lah..Pak lah has allowed all these to happen which would not have been possible under the dictatorial regime of our Dr. M.
The huge rallies which were seen everywhere during the election campaign were strange signs. I last saw this type of rallies only more than 25 years ago if my memory serves me right. It was the election between the Alliance then and Labor Party (with a bull head as logo). There was great excitement, I remember ‘I represented’ the Labor Party, everyone was excited, my brother who was two years my senior was for PAP or DAP( I can’t remember now). After so many years especially after the May 13th incident, our lives have become different. No more kicks in election. The races have somehow also behaved differently due to our leaders who bent on using racial issues to divide the races to garner support. The races become segregated through the so called New Economic Policy, no one wishes to quarrel with this policy as the idea was to elevant the standard of living of the Malays. The idea was good, but it has been overdone for selfish reasons by the politicians. Today certain sectors are almost 100 percent comprised of one single race. Malaysia’s social and economic structure was kept and perpetuated for 22 years under Dr.M’s iron hand , a very selfish and power crazy man. He is a man who talks with no principles, trying to use single case to overthrow others’ argument as if he is right all the times. He suffers from an unwillingness to admit mistakes. He lives under the illusion that he is a world hero for the underprivileged yet he ignored all the basic rule of human rights in the country he ruled.
The second factor no doubt is our Anwar Ibrahim. Without Anwar’s coordinating with the three opposition parties during the election campaign added with the unprecedented longer period of 13 days granted by Pak Lah, democracy would not have born in Malaysia.
Some friends of mine credited today much welcomed political landscape to Pak Lak , they are of the view that if we were to look for a candidate to honour as Father of Malaysia’s democracy then PAK Lah would be most fitting .
I for one agree with my friends, it takes courage to allow your opponents to fight with level ground. Although there were still a lot of unfairness in the last election, Pak Lah had at least let the ceramahs run its natural course, there were no attempt to ban or restrict the size of crowd which he could have easily done so since his predecessor never allowed this to happen before in the past 22 years.
The result of the election is a surprise to many, many until today still cannot accept it. This is especially true for people in the rural areas where RTM still reins supreme. The right thinking and progressive Malays in urban areas have decided to abandon UMNO, among the reasons could be food and petrol prices, not less important is also the issue of corruption, after 50 years, they called it a day and look up to Anwar for a new Malaysia.
